BIO

“Born in Orange County, California, Amanda began dancing at the age of 3 doing ballet, tap, & jazz at California Dance Academy. By 12 years old, she was taken under the wing of Charis Moses where she began seriously training in classical and contemporary ballet at her studio in Yorba Linda, CA. Amanda then continued her training at Anaheim Ballet under the guidance of Larry and Sarma Rosenberg. There she trained and performed rigorously and was apart of the Anaheim International Dance Festival, dancing alongside Clifton Brown, Maria Kotchekova and Misty Copeland. Ms. Smith then moved to New York to study at SUNY Purchase where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. While there Amanda trained with teachers such as Rosanna Seravalli, Bettijane Sills, Stephanie Tooman, Megan Williams, & Ted Kivitt. Amanda performed works by George Balanchine, Helen Pickett and Nicolo Fonte, she also had the opportunity to study abroad within the Dance New York International Dance Festival in Madrid and Burgos, Spain.

In 2012, Amanda was hired by Jean Pierre Bonnefoux and Patricia McBride to be a part of the 2nd company of Charlotte Ballet and a year later was promoted to 1st company. While at Charlotte Ballet Ms. Smith danced roles such as the Cupid variation from Paquita, coached by Glenda Lucena, Western Symphony: Third Movement, coached by the lovely Patricia McBride, and excerpts from Chants by Alonzo King. While at Charlotte Ballet she also worked with and/or performed choreography by George Balanchine, Jean Pierre Bonnefoux, Dwight Rhoden, Mark Diamond, Mark Godden, Sasha Janes, Alonzo King, among others. In the summer of 2015, Amanda moved to New York City and began freelancing. In January of 2016 she began working with New York Theatre Ballet under the direction of Diana Byer. While with NYTB she danced works by Jerome Robbins, Antony Tudor, Antonia Franceschi, Keith Michaels and Jim Sutton. In her freelancing time she spent a few months teaching, & participating in outside gigs/projects including dancing for Jeremy McQueen for The Black Iris Project and choreographer; William Isaac. She was also featured in a national campaign for GAP in 2016. Ms. Smith was hired by Virginia Johnson to join the Dance Theatre of Harlem in July 2017 and has been featured on the cover of April’s issue of Dance Magazine 2019.  She has also been featured in a commercial for Supreme NYC, a commercial for InkBox, and is an ambassador for Bloch Dance USA. Other people Amanda has worked for or done works by include Arthur Mitchell, Darrell Grand Moultrie, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Claudia Shrierer, Robert Garland, George Balanchine, Amy Hall Garner, Christopher Wheeldon, William Forsythe, Stanton Welch, Nacho Duato, Tiffany Rea- Fisher, Jerome Robbins, Alonzo King, Anthony Tudor, Jiri Kylian, Nicolo Fonte, Jessica Lang.
